Luka Modric has yet to confirm whether he will play in the 2026 World Cup, with a number of factors still to be considered in the two years leading up to the tournament.
Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric is unsure whether he will still be playing at the high level required for the 2026 World Cup when he turns 40, Ufabet reported on Thursday.
Modric understands his playing career is coming to an end soon, with the 38-year-old midfielder not enjoying the same success at Real Madrid as in recent years. Although he still plays a part in Carlo Ancelotti’s side, albeit as a rotational player under the Italian coach.
While the 2026 World Cup is also on Modric’s mind. He will be in his 40s by the time the tournament arrives and he is unsure whether he will still be playing at the high level required to make the tournament.
‘The World Cup is a long way off and at my age I can’t plan too much. The first goal is to do well in the Nations League and then we’ll see UFABET. I can’t confirm anything because there’s still a long way to go and I don’t know if it’s possible at my age,’ Modric said.
It will be a sad day for all Croatians when Modric does hang up his boots at international level. Real Madrid would probably prefer to have it happen sooner rather than later, so as to mitigate the risk of possible injuries.
